Savory Experiences: A Food-Themed Exploration of
Primary Sources from the Library of Congress
Think of your teaching toolkit as a crockpot simmering with food for thought on how we produce, consume and make decisions about our ‘daily bread.’ The TPS Summer Institute 2012 focuses on our changing – and unchanging – relationship with food through primary sources. Explore advertising and its influence on what we consume, with a focus on developing media literacy and habits of healthy eating. Consider food production systems, the changing role of agriculture, and the meaning of food in our culture. Experience historic recipes and sample lesson plans to bring a culinary perspective to history, geography, literacy, and a taste of science and math.
[optional two graduate credits through UNC Extended Studies – fee based ]
TPS is pleased to be able to provide campus housing, mileage, continental breakfast, and lunch.
